Did you know that honey mustard sauce is one of the oldest condiments in history? Did you also know that I made that fact up just now? Historically important or not though, it’s delicious. I was itching to make something with it and the DLC “Isle of Armor” for Pokémon Sword/Shield finally gave me the perfect excuse.
You might think to yourself: Why is she bothering me with this old stuff, didn’t that thing come out months ago?” And you’d be right. However, the 27th February was international Pokémon Day and I thought to myself: Why not give the DLCs a celebratory chance, after not really liking the base games.
What can I say? Surprisingly, I had a lot of fun on the Isle of Armor. The Characters are quirky and fun, the Story is short, but entertaining and the perpetually grumpy Fighting-Pokémon Kubfu is adorable. I like imagining some Pancham and Kubfu forming a little gang. Nobody would take them seriously, well, until they evolve obviously.
I must admit I prefer Sword’s Klara over Shield’s Avery, but those are only two members of the new cast. The owners of the Dojo are definitely the stars. Husband and wife duo Honey and Mustard are just so likeable! The plot is told quickly: join the Dojo, earn Mustard’s respect, get a Kubfu, cook some mushroom soup and train your new buddy at one of the towers . Add some Klara/Avery Shenanigans and voilà: that’s what this DLC is all about.
“Isle of Armor” is short and sweet and it actually felt engaging unlike Sword and Shield, where I felt like I was constantly sent away so “the adults” can deal with stuff. This mini expansion doesn’t suddenly make me love the main games, but it was a nice way to spend an afternoon. Next time I’ll tell you about my experience with the second DLC “The Crown Tundra”, but first: today's recipe.
As you maybe might have guessed, there’s honey mustard sauce in this one. Aaand I also wanted to incorporate mushrooms, because they also play a pretty big role on the Isle of Armor. First I was thinking about some sort of mushroom soup, but honestly, doesn’t sound that great in combination with honey and mustard. The other half of this household (dog excluded) has been campaigning for some sort of sandwiches for a while, so here we are: Baguette with honey mustard sauce, beef steak, sautéed onions and mushrooms, cheese and lettuce.
2 small Baguettes 30g Sour Cream 10g Vinegar 20g Oil 40g Butter 20g Mustard 20g Honey 300g Beef Steak 200g Cheese Slices 1 Onion 100g Champignons 75g Lettuce Salt Pepper
peel and slice onions into thin rings
cut the cheese into smaller pieces
take out the mushroom stalks and slice everything
cut the beef into thin slices
mix vinegar, oil, mustard, honey and sour cream
let the sauce rest in the fridge
put a medium sized pan on medium heat
add a quarter of the butter and sweat the onion rings
raise the temperature and roast the onion till they’re golden
take the rings out and set aside
add another butter quarter and the sliced mushrooms
cook them on medium heat and add salt and pepper
increase the temperature and roast the mushrooms till they’re golden
use the rest of the butter to sear the beef, 5 pieces at a time
salt and pepper the meat and roast it for roughly 30sec on each side
half the baguettes lengthwise and distribute the sauce evenly on all halfs
layer the beef, onion and mushrooms on top of the bottom halfs of the baguettes
add the cheese slices on top and cover everything with lettuce
close the sandwiches with the top bread pieces
Guten Hunger!
